Powering a High-Performance Sports Car
For a premier brand launching a new all-electric vehicle, the battery system was a critical component that had to deliver uncompromising performance without altering the car's sleek, aerodynamic design. They needed a partner who could move as fast as their vehicle and develop a truly bespoke solution from the ground up.
The Challenge
The project presented a unique set of engineering challenges. A key obstacle was the need for an exceptionally low-profile battery pack that could be integrated into the chassis without raising the vehicle's floor. This had to be achieved while also striking the perfect balance between power output, energy density, and cost to create the ideal driving experience. Additionally, with key stakeholders and early customers waiting, the entire process required a rapid path from design to a functional prototype.
The Solution
IONETIC’s end-to-end platform was the key to turning these challenges into a success. By adapting our existing flexible battery architecture, IONETIC delivered a fully custom design while significantly reducing the high non-recurring engineering (NRE) costs typically associated with ground-up development. Our software tools and data-driven cell selection ensured the correct cell was chosen to meet the various attribute targets, while our integrated Arc technology stack and agile pilot manufacturing seamlessly transitioned the design into a physical prototype. The whole program was executed in 4 months, providing a faster, more capital-efficient path to market.

Optimising a Performance PHEV.
For a performance OEM developing a new plug-in hybrid, an off-the-shelf battery solution initially seemed viable. However, it quickly became apparent that this standard pack created significant compromises in passenger experience and vehicle dynamics, forcing them to seek a partner who could deliver a truly purpose-built and optimised solution.
The Challenge
The project's core challenge was packaging. While a standard battery pack could fit within the vehicle, its dimensions had a significant negative impact on interior space. Furthermore, the off-the-shelf pack was overweight and contained more energy than necessary for the vehicle's mission, needlessly hampering performance and efficiency. The customer also needed to translate their high-level vehicle performance targets into specific cell requirements to make an informed cell and chemistry choice.
The Solution
IONETIC’s design and manufacturing technology stack provided the deep customisation required. Using our flexible battery architecture, IONETIC designed a bespoke pack with every dimension optimised for the vehicle, achieving a 40% reduction in pack height and a 50% reduction in weight, restoring the intended passenger experience. Our software tools and engineering expertise were used to cascade the performance requirements from the vehicle down to the cell level, giving the customer the data-driven insight needed to select the perfect cell for their application, providing a clear, low capital path to a superior customer experience.
